East Tour
A full-day 4x4 journey across eastern Madeira: Pico do Areeiro at 1,818 m, the UNESCO-listed Laurissilva forest, a local poncha stop, the thatched houses of Santana, the Guindaste viewpoint and the dramatic Ponta de São Lourenço peninsula.
Leave Funchal behind and venture into the most authentic side of Madeira on a journey that combines mountain landscapes, ancient roads and exciting off-road trails.
The first stop is Pico do Areeiro, the island's third-highest peak at 1,818 metres. From here the views stretch across Madeira's central mountain range, often above an impressive sea of clouds. From there we follow back roads and old rural lanes that reveal the island's hidden corners, passing through Ribeiro Frio and the lush Laurissilva forest, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Along the way we stop at a typical local café to enjoy a Madeiran coffee or taste the famous poncha, the island's traditional drink. We then continue to Santana, known for its iconic triangular thatched-roof houses, where there is time to explore the village and enjoy lunch at a traditional Madeiran restaurant.
The adventure carries on along trails and scenic routes to the Guindaste viewpoint, one of the most spectacular spots on the north-east coast. From here you can take in the imposing Penha d'Águia cliff and admire the stunning views over the ocean and the rugged north-eastern coastline of Madeira.
The day ends at the dramatic Ponta de São Lourenço, the island's easternmost peninsula, where volcanic landscapes shaped by wind and sea contrast with the lush green of the rest of the island. Throughout the journey, your local guide shares stories, traditions and fascinating details that bring Madeira's unique culture and nature to life.
