Climbing the narrow, steep mountain roads above Funchal, you'll reach a viewpoint over the dramatic Nuns' Valley at around 1,200 m before stopping at a traditional local bar for a glass of genuine Madeira wine and a slice of honey cake.
The tour also takes in eucalyptus forest dotted with cherry and apple trees and Fajã dos Padres — a spectacular viewpoint around 345 m above the south coast, looking down over a secluded, fertile strip of land at the foot of the cliffs and the ocean beyond.
