West Tour
A full-day 4x4 adventure through western Madeira: the fishing village of Câmara de Lobos, the high Paúl da Serra plateau above the clouds, the waterfalls of the north coast and the natural volcanic swimming pools of Porto Moniz.
From Funchal, discover a side of the island where every bend reveals a new landscape. This is a journey of contrasts, where the ocean, the forest and the mountains meet in an ever-changing play of scenery, colours and climates.
The route runs through the picturesque fishing village of Câmara de Lobos and continues along old scenic roads on the sunny south-west coast. Along the way we stop at a local café to enjoy a drink and take in the gentle rhythm of Madeiran life.
As we climb into the mountains, the landscape transforms. The warm coastal fields give way to verdant valleys and mist-wrapped forests. On the way you can spot the different fruits that thrive at each altitude — from the tropical fruits of the warmer zones to the apples, pears and cherries grown in the mountain regions.
The adventure continues towards Paúl da Serra, Madeira's largest plateau, at around 1,500 metres above sea level. From here we follow exciting off-road trails across remote, untouched landscapes. Among the lush vegetation and mountain paths, you'll discover the unique serenity of the Madeiran forest — a calm that is hard to find for those who live surrounded by the fast pace of big cities.
Descending towards the north coast, some of the island's most striking landscapes appear: cliffs cloaked in luxuriant vegetation, deep valleys and spectacular waterfalls that tumble straight from the mountains into the ocean. The constant presence of water, the intense green of nature and the pure air make this part of Madeira truly unforgettable.
The journey culminates in Porto Moniz, famous for its natural volcanic swimming pools, shaped by the force of the Atlantic over thousands of years. When the weather allows, there is time for a refreshing dip in these crystal-clear waters.
Throughout the day you will also have the chance to get to know the different traditions, customs and ways of life of the local communities, discovering how geography and climate have shaped the unique culture of each region of Madeira.
More than a tour, this is an immersive experience that reveals the extraordinary natural, cultural and scenic diversity of the island.
